Ingredients

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: paprika for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute to create a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, bringing it to a simmer until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and mix in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Combine the macaroni with the cheese sauce and mix until well coated.
  7. Transfer to a greased baking dish and top with breadcrumbs.
  8. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes, sprinkle with paprika if desired, and serve.
